"Well, you see, there are cats in the sky--our ancestors, to be precise--who are called StarClan. They are cats who have died in the Clan. They bless the leader of the Clan with nine lives." Tarnishedoral explained the best he could.

"Well, first cat's have to be chosen as deputy, and then when the leader dies nine times the deputy become leader. However, it's rare for a cat to be chosen as deputy, and it's hard work." Tarnishedoral explained, seating himself as he waited for Ruststar.

Tarnishedoral chuckled. "Not even close," he responded gruffly.

"Well, there's many, many seasons before your even close to being a leader." Tarnishedoral forced the amusement out of his voice. Him becoming leader! Truthfully, he couldn't imagine it.

"The leader's den," Tarnishedoral told him, sticking his head into the den. "Ruststar?" He had seen the leader with the kitten, but he had figured the leader had gone into his den since he wasn't in the outside bit of camp.
